Request Lines Are Open: 7/11/2011 - 80s Vinyl
This week, Mike and Chris return with more Rock Show. They're digging into their record collections to put together a full hour of 1980s vinyl. Enjoy vinyl hits from this bygone era, as well as lesser-known deep tracks from favorite 80s artists. Is there anyone in particular you want to hear?

Request Lines Are Open: 6/27/2011 White Wedding Episode
One half of the Rock Show team (Mike) will be co-DJing a wedding reception in late July, and tonight's episode will be a dry run...
The goal: to play the one-hour's-worth of 60s and 70s classic rock & oldies songs that is most likely "to have as many people as possible getting down" at a wedding reception.
Any suggestions/requests?!

Request Lines Are Open: 6/13/2011 Episode
We're still putting the final touches on tomorrow's playlist: What would you like to hear? We do take requests during the show, but getting them in early makes us much more likely to have the song you want on hand "when the bullet hits the bone" as it were.

Series 2, Episode 2 is on the air! Join the conversation...
We won't be in the studio on Memorial Day, so be sure to remember to tune back in to Rock Show on Monday, June 6th. We might be inclined to play Elvis Presley's haunting rendition of "Blue Moon" and a lesser-known girl group tune that is simply insane.Make your requests below!

On The Air: 5/6/2011 "Kid Rock" Episode!
This Friday will be our last Rock Show for the semester. Keep watching this spot (or the Facebook page) for schedule information for a possible Summer Session of Rock Show.
How do you turn your children, nieces, nephews, or the children of your friends into Rock Show fans? Start them out early with some fun, kid-friendly Classic Rock and Oldies tunes. Songs like this have had a proud history, even before The Beatles famously decreed that all toy submarines shall be yellow. (The penalty for breaking this rule is DEATH!) Maybe with enough requests, this block of "Kid Rock" could grow to take over the hour.

This is not what I meant! Do not ask us to play Kid Rock!
Alternate Caption: "Sweeeet Hoooome Aaaalabama! Dyoont, doont, dee-doo! BUUUURP!"

On The Air: 4/29/2011 "Royal Wedding Fever!"

I made this in Microsoft Paint at work in five minutes.
This Friday we're playing British love songs to celebrate the marriage of this well-to-do daughter of successful entrepreneurs to this ward of the state. I'm not sure what he does for a living. I think he was in the army for a while - or maybe that was jail. Anyway, we're very disappointed in her.
All that aside: Come and join us to celebrate LOVE! Rock Show Style!

It's 4/8/2011, and the "Cover Show" is On The Air!

Covered in Beatles (4/1/2011) is On The Air!
Between 1960 and 1962, the Beatles landed several weeks-to-months-long gigs playing clubs in the Reeperbahn district of Hamburg, West Germany, where they were obligated to perform for a minimum of 4½ — and by some accounts up to 8-10 — hours per day.
In addition to getting them hooked on beer and uppers, the demands of the Hamburg lifestyle also led the band to improve dramatically as musicians, and vastly expand their onstage repertoire — in particular their grasp of covering the American music (early rock & roll, R&B, rockabilly, soul, girl groups) that influenced them.
On this week's Rock Show, we'll be playing the original versions of songs that influenced the Beatles strongly enough for the band to eventually cover them on their official studio albums.
Is there a particular song which would later be covered by the Beatles that you'd like us to play? Do you need to take Preludin in order to stay awake throughout an entire episode of Rock Show? Let your voice be heard!

No Rock Show on Friday, March 16th
It's Spring Break at the University of Iowa, so Rock Show and its brethren are taking the week off. We'll return next week with more great music. In the meantime, you can tune into The Lab's stream to hear whatever tunes the computer is picking. I know, I know: a computer can't miscue songs and make terrible puns, but it'll have to do.In the meantime, feel free to use this thread for general discussion of what sorts of rock/pop music "themes" you'd like to hear us tackle, with examples of songs that fit these themes.
A couple of themes we're working on for upcoming Rock Shows are Soul Music (or perhaps a combo Funk/Soul show) and Covers (Elton John and John Lennon covering "I Saw Her Standing There" live in concert? We can provide that.)
Cheer up! There's more Rock Show to come!

Request Lines Open: 3/4/2011 Rockabilly
Rock your socks off with the likes of Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, as well as some lesser-known artists from the heyday of Rockabilly music on this week's Rock Show. This is where to post your requests if there's anything specific you want to hear. We'll even entertain the possibility of some later Rockabilly Revival, but only if it really cooks!

"Me and the band are goin' to Perkins after this. Ha ha - just kiddin'!"

Request Lines Open: 2/25/11 Post-Punk
Do you have any favorites from the post-punk era? (Think early The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Devo, Bauhaus, Public Image Ltd, Joy Division, Gang Of Four...)

Or just imagine what sort of music you might be singing if you looked like this.

Request Lines Open: 2/16/2011 What are your favorite collaborations?
Everybody knows that late-90s R&B superstars Brandy & Monica once collaborated on an epic track titled "The Boy Is Mine." But did you further know know that Sir Paul McCartney and the late Michael Jackson once joined forces for a little ditty called "The GIRL is Mine"?
But seriously, what are your favorite collaborations?

Request Lines Open: 1/28/2011 Show
The theme for Friday's show is The British Invasion. At the end of the hour, we might make room for a couple of requests that don't fit the British Invasion label, but try to think of something you'd like to hear from those days when Britannia first ruled the U.S. airwaves.
