I noticed this week how the birth and golden age of Soul overlapped relatively closely with the birth and golden age of rock + roll, and how there was this mutual give + take. Just then, we had Otis Redding -- one of Soul's true giants -- covering "Satisfaction," which had been recorded earlier in the very same year (1965) by the Rolling Stones. Stay tuned for a soul song that would later be covered by a true giant of rock + roll (The Who)!
Chris just told me that this song playing now -- "Nothing but a Heartache" by The Flirtations -- enjoyed a resurgence in the 2000s when featured in a KFC commercial in England...
Pepperjack and/or Bearclaw just entered The Lab's studio and, in the process, literally hit me in the head with the door. But to be fair, the Parliament song is running us 3 minutes late (into their show), so I suppose I kind of deserved it.
Roll call: Paul, Anna, Mary, Clake's friends that I don't know yet?
ReplyDeleteHi. Loved that last song. Gwen would know the movie ref, too. Hope you're listening lady.
ReplyDeleteThis is what I'm talking about. Sex machine indeed.
ReplyDeletethis one, too! They had a great scene in Scrubs using this song... is it bad that I know my songs from movies &/or TV shows? :-)
