This Friday is a special All Covers version of Rock Show. Do you have a favorite cover version of an oldies/classic rock/classic soul/etc. tune you'd like to hear? Get your requests in early! Below, the William Shatner cover that left everyone saying "Elton who?"
Stand by Me, as covered by John Lennon
ReplyDelete"Because the Night" as covered by 10,000 Maniacs on MTV Unplugged album
ReplyDelete"In the Ghetto" covered by Natalie Merchant and Tracy Chapman from Lilith Fair: A Celebration Of Women In Music, Volume 2 [Live]
ReplyDelete"Highway 61 Revisited" as covered by PJ Harvey
ReplyDelete"I wish I never saw the sunshine" as covered by Beth Orton
ReplyDelete"Don't Forget Me" as covered by Neko Case
ReplyDelete"Everybody knows this is nowhere" covered by Dar Williams
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that last request isn't for Cinnamon Girl? Because that is what they'll play.
ReplyDeleteBut speaking of covers off that Neil Young album...how about Down By The River by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds (from Live at Radio City Music Hall album)?
ReplyDeleteOoooo....could this be the loophole for a certain band to make the show?!? I'm pretty sure this certain band did a cover of a 1973 Slade classic: Cum On Feel The Noize. That band: Oasis!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think someone told me once that the Beatles may have done a couple covers. If only I had a list of 20 of them, with the original artist. But alas, there can't be an internet radio show/blog that would tell me that sort of information.
ReplyDelete(On a side note, I just found the wikipedia page for that. Would have been useful for me to google that LAST week instead of today.)
Since I don't really have an actual request, I guess I'll stop now.
Paul checking in. Soon to be joined by frozen burritos and either a Sam Adams Noble Pils or some lemonade with vodka.
ReplyDeleteJust had Noble Pils last night for the first time at TCB! So good.
ReplyDeleteWhat's that? Was it as good as Billy Idol covering Simple Minds? Let's not get carried away...
ROCK SHOW!
Hittin hard as usual. Ann and I are drinking Rolling Rock while Grant is asleep. Hopefully Grant doesn't notice our state of mind
ReplyDeleteA special single Billy recorded to promote his Greatest Hits collection.
ReplyDeleteYou're hearing Nicholas Cage right now.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....I'm just sipping a Dew. Maybe I need to step up my game...
ReplyDeletewow. good thing keanu reeves isn't covering Elvis as well
ReplyDeleteOr Gilbert Gottfried.
ReplyDeleteaxe, what do you think about Tiger and Freddy making a run today? Ann, I assume you're going to the ladies football thing? Mike, are we getting a Manny being Manny tribute tonight?
ReplyDeleteAnn said is this just last week's show replayed with the Beatles block
ReplyDeleteYeah - is this Rock Show or Beatles Show? At least play Yesterday by Boys II Men. LOL
ReplyDeleteI am really loving Freddy coming up. He will probably throw his back out and fade. Don't really care about Tiger. Phil doesn't look like it's his year
ReplyDeleteThe only difference is that -- unlike last week -- I successfully remembered to plug in the laptop, so we WILL have a recording of this episode preserved for the ages!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be cool if Rory holds it coast to coast...
ReplyDeleteI doubt Mike is up-to-speed on Manny.
ReplyDeleteRory? Ugh. USA! USA!
ReplyDeleteClake - that was borderline not family friendly. Ha! I would have been frightened to hear what your excitement about Bowie covering the Beatles would have sounded like
